Ahhhhh......the lowly cockle bur. I loathe thee.
Your dry, prickly exterior attaches itself to every pant leg, shoelace, and sock in my household.
Not to mention the dogs. Oh, the horror of cockle burs on the dogs.......

Some of you I can pick right off and then again, some of you like to shred when I touch you.

Recently I read that
cockle burs do actually have two uses. One, they can be stuck together to create sculptures. Secondly, they can be used as darts on
pant legs.
I am so glad my son doesn't read my blog.
Yes, and there is another type, that my house dog gets all over her when she gets loose. She has some type of hunting dog in her blood line, and she sneaks off at every chance she gets and comes home covered from head to toe with those tiny black burrs. They are "the pits",also.
ReplyDeleteUggh...I'm with you on this one.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have these here and have to tell you....I am glad.

Burs are definitely not fun to pick out of a pet's fur!
ReplyDeleteOh dear! We had a cat come home covered in them one time. Did I mention 'long-haired' cat? ugh.
ReplyDeleteLove your post, can't be worse than a cactus. Nice close ups.
ReplyDeleteUGH!! Do you know that I actually moved away from the computer when I saw that thing?! Don't want it anywhere NEAR me!
ReplyDeleteRandy - You might be right on that one. I really don't want to pick cactus needles out of anyone/anything around here.
ReplyDeleteHaven't thought of or seen a cockle bur since I was a kid. Don't want to either...ouch!!
ReplyDeleteIs that really your house (farm) pictured on your header. OMG! I am in love.
Thanks for visiting my blog today. Love your pics!
ReplyDeleteThese remind me of what, as a youth, I called sticky birds, or sticky burrs! Also called beggar ticks.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure, but we have something like that and equally bad!
ReplyDeleteCute post : ) I used to put them on one of my little cousins and tell her it was a bee : )
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new camera!
