Last night was our first home football game here in Smalltownland. A lot of tradition surrounds this kind of event.

The band comes in to put on an excellent show during half time.

A meeting of the minds occurs before any action takes place. Go Big Green!!!

The players dash onto the field in an explosion of applause and show of school spirit. Then the 10 year old daughter of the announcer gets on the microphone and asks the crowd, in her tiny voice, "Are you ready for some football?"

The best display of school spirit came in the form of this hat.
Secret Agent Man already told me he doesn't want to see this on my head next time. And, yes, we won!!!
Coming from a small town myself this stirs us wonderful memories.....
ReplyDeletewhat fun!!!
ReplyDeletepretty sure i'd never wear the hat :)
I was just mentioning on FB how we live between two high schools. It's always fun to hear the marching bands practice in the fall. Our youngest played HS football, btw. The games were so exciting.
ReplyDeleteYour post reminds me of my high school days of going to football games in SW OH. I remember the rivalry with the Fairfield Indians and we thought we'd insult them by calling them the Fairfield Farmers! Oh No! So the Friday at school before the game with them, we got to come dressed as farmers, and had a pep rally. Some good memories. Thanks, and thanks for stopping by my blog this morning.
ReplyDeleteYour brave! I wouldn't wear that one either. Nice series of photos!
ReplyDeleteI have only read of these night and seen them recreated in movies. Thank you for the nice and funny reportage.
ReplyDeleteIt must be fall. Got that right. I'll usually wear any hat, but on that one I'll pass, even for football.
ReplyDeleteHey Randy, I am not brave! It wasn't me in that hat and I assure you I won't be wearing it at the next game!!
ReplyDeleteTis the season here, too! Glad your team won and I love the hat!
ReplyDeleteto us this sport is not known, we can see that in pictures, I think it must be nice to see, with the show entrance! Congratulations also to those pictures that have not be easy to do!... :) bye !
ReplyDeleteOur Ripley Vikings had their first game last night. And you sure could tell it, the cars were lined up and down the road when we passed through town last night.
ReplyDeleteI can almost feel a fall chill in the air when I see the guys in their football uniforms. Looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a ton of fun. I think small towns have lots of spirit.
ReplyDeleteThere's not much better than a Friday night high school football game!It means Fall is here...the heat is over...and the kids are back in school!!
ReplyDeleteWell crap! I just typed a whole paragraph and Blogger ate it.
ReplyDeleteI'll try again.
I would SOOOO wear that hat. It's fun. And I'm all about fun!
I live on the outskirts of a town that's growing by leaps and bounds. We now have 3 high schools. And are they rivals!! We kicked off our football season weekend before last and ESPN was here taping all weekend. There was a lot of school spirit floating around this town!
