Our ancient farmhouse has a has three small waterfalls that are quite close to our front porch. At any given time of year you can sit on the porch and listen to the falls pour out from the hillside. A pathway has been worn over time that takes you right down the hill to this.
The remnants of an old spring house are also in this area of our farm. In the corner you can see a small stream of water that flows from the ground. Looking for pottery shards is a favorite activity here in late spring/early summer. After that nature rules and tall weeds keep us from the area. Not to mention the crazy insect population. Searching for shards after a heavy rain is usually our best bet. The rain washes out a lot of treasures just waiting to be found.
On the day I photographed the falls I also found this heart shaped rock. That day was also my daughter's birthday.
This is a beautiful spot. I think if I lived near there....you would find me there often! What a pleasant getaway.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to hear that sound whilst sitting out on your porch. In fact, how lovely to have a porch... how lovely to be able to sit out and hear more than the wind!
ReplyDeleteYou can go out and explore for pottery treasures, then relax on the porch and listen to the waterfalls. How nice is that?!
ReplyDeleteI love places like that! It would be neat if somewhere there were photographs of the structure when it was in use. What a great place to explore! I wonder what a metal detector would reveal? That would be an experience!
ReplyDeleteTwo years ago I looked for pictures of what was across the small road from where my grandmother lived when she first came to this country. There was a large rock foundation similar to the one you have, and it was next to a large stream. It turns out that it was a water powered grain mill. We even were able to locate pictures of it while it was in use. Very cool!
What a beautiful bit of Nature right outside your door! I am a bit jealous! I love waterfalls! Thanks so much for sharing, and I hope you didn't have too much bad weather last night!
ReplyDeleteAwesome area to hang out in the summertime, I would imagine.
ReplyDeleteWe find all sorts of ceramic and iron bits around our place, usually after a rain -- like yourself. I have a large jar where I keep them all. :)
What gorgeous photos! How blessed to live by waterfalls, neat!
ReplyDeleteWhen we bought the cabin property years ago, I loved walking the woods to find treasures. The best was a little brown pottery jug, fully in tact, that now holds flowers on the patio table each summer. We still find bits and pieces that have not decayed. The woods must have been a dumping ground at one time.
ReplyDeleteYour trickling waterfalls are relaxing. We have a wonderful creek at the cabin, too, and how I wish we lived there always.
Someday.
BlessYourHeart
You have a cave? Great for visiting in-laws, right?
ReplyDeleteOh, and it would be remiss of me not to say Happy (belated) Presidents Pets Day - the day after Presidents Day, as I like to call it. In the US, we love our presidents..... pets. See my blog if you’re in the mood for a good ol' irreverent howl.
What wonderful place to live...love the heart shaped rock.
ReplyDeleteWhat a intriguing spot... every time, every visit a new 'gem'. Quite cool.
ReplyDeleteGosh, you have a pretty property! Full of history and treasures and who knows what (in that cave!)
ReplyDeleteA place to explore like this is truly a treasure! What will you do with the shards of pottery/glass...surely there is a crafty thing you could do to preserve them!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely spot to explore!
ReplyDeleteIts also so special when its right out your own back door:)
Yeap it looks a good sign! Have a fabulous weekend.
ReplyDeleteA good sign indeed! Your property is so amazing, I can't believe you have a cave and waterfalls - so lucky!
ReplyDeleteI'm Shug and I'm stopping over from Dar's place. OMG...I so love the old farm house and the nice little water falls....Nothing sweeter to me than hearing the sound of water running across rocks.
ReplyDeleteJust don't find things like this very often here in Good Ol' East Texas.
How Peaceful!
Blessings,
Shug
What a wonderful spot...I think you live in the greatest place! I love the sound of water and we have a small stream that runs near our house in the winter and Spring only...we rock hunt there. The heart shaped rocks are wonderful aren't they? My sons have found a few for me...they make it special.
ReplyDeleteamen.
ReplyDeleteplease have a good weekend you all.
There should be a lot of Indian arrowheads and hammers around that spring. Have you looked?
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful places on your farm. I would love to have a cave and remnants of a spring house to explore.
ReplyDeleteAbe - We found something that looks like the beginning of an arrowhead at the spring house, but that is about it. Seriously. We look and dig around whenever we are down there, so hopefully something else will turn up.
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky! I would love to sit on the porch and hear that water. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWow you have a stunning property! Imagine sitting on the porch listening to the waterfalls. I would love to help you explore around the creek! I love the heart shaped pebble, you should keep it!
ReplyDeleteWonderful post. I think the constant gurgling of the waterfalls would be very soothing.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting piece of land you have there ! And beautiful photos of the area. Places to explore for all ages.

you're so lucky to have such a wonderful spot to enjoy and explore. my sister lives in a high-rise (sharp contrast, hu?) and they have a rock pool full of heart shaped rocks...so she snuck one out to give to me and i keep it in a flower pot.
ReplyDeleteA woman after my own heart - likes to scavenge in the woods for treasures ;)!
ReplyDeleteYou have a lovely journal here; photos spectacular and the history too ~ we shall be back!
Looks like a very serene place. The caves, waterfalls and such amazing scenery all around...
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful sunday:-)
The area I live in has a lot of limestone and there are many springs in the ledges. It's amazing the amount of water some of them put out.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful haven! I love small streams and waterfalls. In the summer, I take Pickles to a place that we can hike along the river stones for miles, just following the water. I can't wait till it warms up here in NY again.
ReplyDeleteAlas it snowed again last night. Mother nature is boycotting my poor state and making a liar out of the groundhog. (Hugs)Indigo
Your property is beautiful and what neat treasures you have found so far!
ReplyDeleteSo neat!! Now you know me and the girls wish we could have been there with you to dig : )
ReplyDeletehow beautiful! the farm i grew up on in southern missouri had waterfalls, springs, and all sorts of little treasures. :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful property you have. I have to travel before I see anything like this. Great enjoyment for the dog as well.
ReplyDeleteI love going on walks like these! I usually only find old bottles, but they always come home with me. And my kids are always bringing me old bottles that they find.
