This past week the chiclets and I found ourselves finally on spring break. I know it must seem curious to want days off after having so many free snow days, but this is a different situation entirely. Warm temperatures and a hefty dose of spring fever made for a great week.
While the first part of our week dealt with farm and household duties, the latter included a trip to the Red River Gorge in east, central Kentucky. With its fantastic geological formations, it is a favorite of rock climbers everywhere. Known simply as, "The Red", climbers flock to the area with Miguel's Pizza famously known as a central hang out. And, yes Miguel makes some fabulous pizza.
We chose to do some hiking to get to the Natural Bridge. Why ride the chairlift when you can climb up a steep mountain instead?!
Oh wow! Just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand spring break being different than all those snow days off - you can PLAN something for that week and EXPECT to have fun and relaxation. Sounds like a great trip!
What gorgeous country! You must have had so much fun!--Inger
ReplyDeleteSo much eye candy everywhere! Reminds me a little of the Black Hills. Rugged and beautiful.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful place to visit. My family originates in KY and we still own our family farm there. One of our favorite things to do is hike in the mountains!
Your header photo is WONDERFUL. The field of flowers in front of the barn is magical.
Very dramatic scenery!

ReplyDeleteMy hiking days are past but so happy you take me along:) Love the pictures.
ReplyDeleteWe are always zipping through Kentucky and Tennessee to get some where. Obviously we need to slow down sometime and enjoy the side trips. The girls are getting old enough to do this, and I THINK the husband and I are still young enough to make it to the top!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Kentucky. I AM a hiker and nature lover and this sure makes me want to go for a visit! Wonderful pictures.
ReplyDeleteKentucky is on my list of places I want to visit! What a beautiful place and a great way to enjoy each other. We have Spring Break next week for 2 of our 3 kidnicks...can't wait!

ReplyDeleteMy husband and friends from Louisville have raved about this place for ages now. As soon as we move and get settled in Lou, I'm insisting on a trip there! I can't hardly wait!
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing rock formations. That would be a major rock climb behind secret agent man. It is always difficult getting good pictures when locations are awash with trees, but you have done a great job here.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great area to hike. I have heard about it but never seen some of these rock formations. You took me there... in pix. I'm envious!
ReplyDeleteWonderful trek. What a dramatic stone arch greeting you on your hike.
ReplyDeleteI think here in Florida, the Summer has been bullying the Spring. It's already hot (sigh).
ReplyDeleteI am going to share your post with a friend who absolutely loves Kentucky and enjoys hiking too. I think he will really enjoy your post.
Happy Spring to you.
Velva
