Iris

Here on the farmette there seems to be an Iris everywhere I look lately.

I am certainly not complaining.

I didn't plant a one of them, yet each year they reemerge providing us with great beauty.

With little to no work from the human farm inhabitants.

  13. Aren't you lucky. I tried to plant irises in the past, but they didn't like my yard or they didn't like me. We live in a shady place, so my best floral friends are hostas, azaleas, rhodies and mountain laurel.

  17. Wow - they are beautiful! This reminds me of a story I read to my class. In the story daffodils come up every year in the middle of the woods were a house was long ago. Your pictures make me wonder who planted those bulbs AND, it makes me want to plant bulbs so I can have nice Spring blooms!

  20. I do love irises. I have had as many as 20 some different colors over the last 40 plus years, but now I have maybe a dozen. I did some transplanting here lately, putting some in beds where I can enjoy them more. They are in bloom for such a short time each Spring.

  22. I have some purple ones planted in my yard that were started from the ones that my mom had in the yard of the home in which I grew up. I do love the iris. Next to the buttercup, it's one of my favorites.

  27. Beautiful flowers and photos. We had Iris just come up every year in on of our past yards. I love when that happens. Hope your little Robins make it. I was really interested in your Straw Bale garden. I am sharing it with my son. Nope we haven't done anything in our garden area yet. Busy times. But love this idea, especially the no weeds part.

  29. Beautiful Irises. One of the great things about these flowers? The deer don't like them. They will eat every day lilly but, the irises they avoid.

    Cheers.

My mom always took great joy in her Iris--despite my brother and I nearly trampling them all the time with our backyard sports games.
