I have a confession to make....I don't like to work in the garden. Oh sure, I like to plan it, order funky garden accessories, plant things in straw bales, and give my opinion, but it is really Secret Agent Man who carries out the plans.
He creates fantastic compost piles,
hoes the weeds, and does the dirty work.
Except this year, his favorite hoe is missing. The one with the splintered handle, the dull/dented blade, and the coat of rust that only time could bestow.
I bought him a new one that even has a spongy handle. He told me it wouldn't do.
I am praying that the old hoe turns up.
I hate to think I will have to use the new one.
Ha ha, I hope it turns up! I like the harvesting part of gardening, and I like the anticipatory planting of seeds. But weeding is really a drag.
ReplyDeleteI'm lucky. My wife loves working the garden. I only have to do the big jobs like plowing and discing.
ReplyDeleteI like that first shot!
ReplyDeleteOld garden tools are the best I agree! But I like others to help me use them than actually have to use them myself.
ReplyDeleteOh, my wife does all th gardening !
ReplyDeleteWhere or where is that old hoe!!
ReplyDeletethat made me laugh. :)
ReplyDeleteYou just reminded me that I have some minor work on the plants on my terrace...
ReplyDeleteI HOE-p you find the hoe.
ReplyDeleteI like gardening until I see a snake.
I wonder what happened to the old one. Looks like spring where you guys are.
ReplyDeleteAll this time I have been crediting you for the gardening on the farmette! I know what Secret Agent Man feels . . . we become attached to our old tools, often passed down to us from our parents or from the previous owner of our homes.
ReplyDeleteMe, too, Michelle - I make the plans and assign the big tasks to my hubby, too, and he has become a Master Composter (I think he even enjoys it, altho he'd never admit it!)Your kiddos are growing!
ReplyDeleteLOL! You better go looking for a new one that he'll approve of!
ReplyDeleteHope you find the hoe. It can be really rough losing that tool that fits your hand... just right.
ReplyDeleteYou should keep that Secret Agent Man around...sounds like a keeper. Where in the heck could a hoe go? Especially during winter? Curious indeed. If there's any justice in the gardening world, it'll be found and you'll continue to order items and create great concepts -- and keep your hands clean.
ReplyDeleteYour post made me giggle....My husband is the same way...he is very particular when it comes to his hoes and I might add shovels.
ReplyDeleteHope the old one shows up real soon!
Have a great week
I am also attached to my garden tools and don't like it when my favorite ones go missing either...Hope it shows up, and I hope you are having a good Monday!!
ReplyDeletehaha...I'm kind of the same way. The planning is all so fun...but the rest is just a lot of work!
ReplyDeleteHope you find it! My husband was the one who got me started in gardening, but lately I've been hooked too. The only thing I haven't learned to love is weeding in the heat.
ReplyDeleteuh oh...the case of the missing hoe...sure hope it shows up....
ReplyDeleteI love to weed. I know, strange. I can sit and weed for hours. It's a great time to cogitate. Hope he finds his hoe.
ReplyDeleteLaura
Funny, I have a favorite hoe too. I promise, I don't have his. My husband and I both garden. Thank God, I only tend one of the three gardens. As for the new hoe, tell him it just does not fit your hands.
ReplyDeleteBlessYourHeart
I hope the old hoe turns up! It sounds like there is a lot of work to be done in the future
ReplyDeleteMy image has been shattered. Here, all this time I thought you were Queen of the Garden. Wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteLol.. a man and his tools, it has to be just right!
ReplyDeleteSounds just like my house. John told me this weekend I'm too much of a foreman. I said, "Well, there's only room for one queen bee in the hive. And in this hive I'm it." lol
ReplyDeleteHope you all had a great Easter. I am now in official countdown to summer mode.

I think you need to put an APB out for that hoe! If you can't find it, a trip to the goodwill or used farm equipment store to find an already broken in hoe. I actually have some old pitchforks from my grandpa's farm! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteLol! A man needs a good hoe. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to get out in the garden - does your Secret Agent have any tips in regards to his compost pile? I'd love to get one started!
ReplyDeleteMy back just won't let me do the tedious & hard work of weeding. I get all excited about watching DH garden though, and every now and then I will plant an onion, or a tomato, and I am really good at watering! (I know, I would make a pathetic gardener!)
ReplyDeleteMy wife does most of the gardening (she's kind of particular about it), but I give a big helping hand with any of the hard/heavy work - toting bags of potting soil, digging, cutting down dead trees, etc. Seeing all the green in the yard is worth it! We sat out this last weekend and watched all the butterflys going nuts over our different flower bushes.
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess you could say "The beginning is half of the work".....
ReplyDeleteLooks nice where you are.
It is HARD to replace a GOOD hoe now!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite (which belonged to my long dead Mamaw) was "borrowed" by my sweet hubbie and used to stoke his bonfires!
GAH!
