There really is nothing quite like living in the Southern States. On one hand it really is just a geographical location, but really it is a whole different frame of mind. Top that off with living in a small town and you have a mix of things that can be indescribable.
Take, for instance, this weekend. Secret Agent Man and myself actually went out, WITHOUT THE CHILDREN. Seriously, this never happens. We drove to a neighboring historical town and we had a fabulous lunch. I made him go into an antique mall and then he drug me through a gun store....complete with a box of live crickets. It was an awesome day.
And then, we have the icing on the proverbial cake.
A camouflage coke machine. Seriously.
Who thought of such a thing?!
And then we have this photo, taken from the side of the road.
Out of odor?
Both of these things leave me just a tad bit speechless.

too cute! and a box of crickets as a bonus!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am not a native of the south I can surly agree with you that it is a different culture from the rest of the country that I am familiar with. Unfortunately in just the five years I have been here I see pieces fast disappearing from the landscape -- barbara
ReplyDeletei know plenty of folks who would love to have one of those camo drink machines. definitely things in the south are so different than any where else. too fun! (:
ReplyDeleteI love the south.....sounds like a fun day...
ReplyDeleteI think the pop machine is brilliant..great marketing!
ReplyDeleteGun shops...I spend time in them also and I always feel it is a labor of love! xo
I checked back just to see if you posted your visit to a historical town. Glad you got away without the kiddos. It gave you a chance to see thing through each others eyes...a box of crickets?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I am speechless too. Why camoflage a coke machine? And do you think they just spelled it wrong or it was done as a joke...oh yeah, we're speechless.
I will send my KY cousins this link and see what they think. LOL
What a nice day with your hubby! We all need days like that every now and then.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this journey very much. And yes, the sign is great. Please have you all a wonderful new week.
ReplyDeleteFun photos!
ReplyDeleteYou should continue to have awesome days with your husband.
ReplyDeleteCheers to your wonderful day.
Velva
Too funny.
ReplyDeleteFun, NO KIDS? How do you manage:=0)
ReplyDeleteThat pop machine must be owned by an outdoor sportsman. My guys would love one of those for the cabin, but then they'd have to put electricity in....someday, they will fall for one of my mind tricks and do that.
So glad you had a fun day. Farming is a huge job and the small town feel, well, there's nothing like it, even way up north.

Well, camo Coke machines are just necessities of life... It seems that everything else is camoed these days. (Who knew that camo could be verbed?)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun day out with your hubby. Good for you!
Well, the Coke machine now sells "carbonated sugared beverages" as it always has, but now they aren't politically correct in many areas. Perhaps the machines are trying to hide?
ReplyDeleteAnd, the "out of odor" sign made me laugh out loud. Fantastic! I hope I didn't wake up our dogs by laughing so loud....
Looks like you had a great time! Love the coke machine! LOL!!! Great photos too, especially "out of odor" too funny!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week!
This made me laugh, Michelle. Especially the sign. Coming from a small town, although not in the South, I can understand the camo coke machine. How else can you hunt and get a coke? Geeez! So sweet that Secret Agent man took you out without the kids! Gotta love a guy who takes you shopping at his favorite shop.xx
ReplyDeletehaha...as for the ODOR sign, i guess if that's a little 'outhouse', the sign maker has a sense of humor!! haha
ReplyDeletei know what you mean about the 'south'...having been raised in NY and then lived in los angeles for 15 yrs...ending up in (north) florida...was quite a change. a different world really!
yay...for getting away...without kids for a day!!
Love the sense of humour both these shot show! Pleased you had a special time together, celebrating/tolerating each other's differences.
ReplyDeleteThe coke machine is... different. But that out of odor outhouse is really funny!! LOL
ReplyDeleteA lovely post with two funny images and a great quote!
ReplyDeletelove that coke machine and that sign has me really perplexed lol....recently a friend of mine bought crickets for her boys to feed to their big lizard (i forget what kind he is)anyways...she had to stop at the car dealership for a quick service and was moving the crickets and spilled the box all over the parking lot. as she told me the story of her scrambling around the parking lot trying to catch crickets, it was quite comical haha...
ReplyDeleteand i agree, small southern towns are the best!
"out of odor'... a riot! Too funny! SAM musta loved the camo Coke.
ReplyDeleteNice that you two could get away! Sounds like you had a great time.
ReplyDeleteThat Coke machine cracks me up!
ReplyDeletehow nice you got to have lunch together...we RARELY do that, too!
ReplyDeletenow that 'out of odor' leaves me speechless, too. Oh dear. ha.
Great finds! I'm guessing the camoflauge Coke machine was outside the gun store? The 'Out of Odor'....well...that's just odd in an amusing way. Glad you and your SAM enjoyed such a nice day together.
ReplyDeleteHa ha - put a smile on my face, esp. the 2nd photo. I'm sure the coke machine is camouflaged so it wouldn't be mistaken for a deer - I mean, you have red deer down there, don't ya ?
ReplyDelete;>)
Hmmm. I never hear that music without thinking of Ken Burns and the tragedy of the Civil War....
ReplyDeleteMichelle, you are the best. The image of being drug around a gun store ( ! ) with a box of crickets is priceless. Great music. And a camouflaged coke dispenser and "out of odor" sign. Definitely the best post of the day.
ReplyDeleteI don't think those things ever run out of odor. ;)
ReplyDeleteBWAHAHAAHHAA so did you buy a coke and take a ----? how funny.
