From out of the deep, dark recesses of my archives comes this photo I took several years ago. Small butterflies had found an old baseball next to our garage. They took advantage of the soft resting place and stayed in this cluster for several hours.
A bright spot of sunshine on a very cold winter day.

ReplyDeleteso cool. beautiful wings. ( :
ReplyDeleteAt first glance I thought it was a plant of some kind- how neat!
ReplyDeleteThis is terrific -- on a winter day or otherwise. Amazing how many gathered on that small sphere. Isn't nature clever?

ReplyDeleteI needed some sunshine today, thank you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous photo -- the light on the green wings is so luminescent. -- barbara
ReplyDeleteWhat a mesmerizing picture!
ReplyDeleteHow intriguing--I wonder what they liked about it. And I'm glad to see your bees are still healthy. Larry tapped on our hive a few days ago and got a good angry buzz so I think ours are still okay. We seem to lose them in early March for some reason so this year we're watching more closely to be sure they have enough food. We also stacked bales of hay around the hive to keep them warmer.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! You took a very unusual photograph of butterflies. Who'd have thought butterflies would find a baseball as a resting place.
ReplyDeletePretty!!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder what they are talking about......

ReplyDeleteLovely pic. You know, if we can't get any snow (and I mean enough on which you can sled) I am ready for spring to hurry up and get here.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I wonder if they were feeding on something...love seeing nature merge with the physical world.....
ReplyDeleteThat is such a beautiful picture. I noticed that the green butterflies surrounded the butterfly with the yellow wings edged in black. I wonder if there was any significance in that.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, does anyone know the name of those butterflies.
