Let's Go to the Fair

What is it about a local fair coming to town? The excitement, the mystique, the thrill of getting on a ride that might make you become violently ill?

Maybe it is the desire to be outside when the heat and humidity create a smoky haze in the air.

Yeah....that is my favorite part.  Oh....and the food on a stick.

Possibly it is the allure of the angry, stuffed chili pepper?

Maybe because, getting on a carnival ride with your bestie while loud music is thumping in the background is a ritual of childhood.

Having your hair stand on end is a experience not to be missed.

And, even though you are not a youth yourself, you feel compelled to crouch underneath a ride called, "The Hurricane", while it is going at full speed, just to get a good shot.

Really the most important reason to attend is so your children won't miss this classic experience of childhood.

"If you ever start feeling like you have the goofiest, craziest, most dysfunctional family in the world, all you have to do is go to a state fair.  Because, five minutes at the fair, you'll be going, 'you know we're alright.  We are dang near royalty.' "

  2. I couldn't agree with you more. There is nothing like a State Fair or just a small town fair. I think the parades are the best !!

  3. JF quote is sooooooooo true, really. All you said and I'd add: always, as a kid, got a kick out of checking out all the creepy carnival workers. We had a group called The World of Mirth that always passed through town each summer. Fair season in the NE is Sept-Oct.

  19. We don't have state fairs but every easter we have the Royal easter show in Sydney, it is a huge affair and has all the rides and side shows along with lots of other things.
I haven't been for a while but as a kid and teenager I went every year and loved it.

  20. I love this post....You are so right about the things you can see at the fair. Yes...we are a whole lot of normal when you stop and take a good look around you. Our fair usually comes around the middle of September each year. It's not like it use to be when I was growing up, but the kids seem to love it. And..yes, the food is GREAT.

  32. Great shots of the fair! We've not taken our children as the prices for entry and rides are very expensive here.

  33. These photos brought a smile to my face! It’s been far too long since I have been to a fair!

  34. Great action shots, the last one is superb considering the light and potential movement.
With regards to the chilli peppers, the first time I went to the fair, I expected to win something off the top shelf but there were color codes below the hook a duck & I had to choose a lesser item from the bottom shelf !
