Thoughtful Thursday

Coming soon to a field near you....Fall.  Or, as some folks like to call it, Autumn.

Here in Smalltownland, we are still smothering in the hot days of Summer.  Fall is just around the corner and I am counting on it.  According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, a tough winter is what I should be thinking about.

"People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy."

Anton Chekhov

  2. I enjoy those pleasant fall afternoons if only winter wasn't next. When we get frosts the greens start getting a better flavor, something to look forward to.

  3. I've heard cold, wet, brr. I just hope fall lasts more than a week or two. Seems like we skipped right through Spring this year.

  7. Fall is 'my' time of the year and I admit, I do look forward to it. The hot humid summer is gone, the bugs have left town, and the sky is sooooo blue. Love it!

  11. We are ready for Fall too and here in Kansas it looks like it is going to be a scorcher before it gets cooler! I am honestly just ready for some weather that makes sense because it has been so erratic and all over the place.

    Magnificent photo!

  14. I have to think about that quote, I guess Chekhov never experienced the dry heat of a drought year in a desert canyon. Because I am happy and I sure notice the weather. And look forward to that cold winter as promised.

  15. Love that reddish light! If Chekhov is right I must be very happy...

  16. Beautiful Shades of Red! Here the first yellow and red leaves are just appearing ... but soon the colors are bright everywhere. A lovely quote :)

  17. Yep, we're still crazy hot here as well. I've been hearing a lot of chatter lately about the almanac's prediction for this winter. Better batten down the hatches!

  18. Beautiful fall colors in your photo!! Here in Florida, we know it's Fall when the lilly pads turn brown and our glasses don't fog up when we get out of the car! LOL I so enjoy photos of the changing colors north of Florida!

  19. Ah, that's a pretty scene! Love the quote, too. Hope the almanac is not right this time. xo

  22. Hi Michelle,
Lovely changes to your blog since I was here last.

I love that quote by Chekhov. I feel that way about Christmas. I don't need Christmas to feel better or happier. I am just happy and GRATEFUL everyday.

I prefer to say "Autumn" - "fall" is negative. We fall down, we get hurt when we fall, fall is a motion of gravity pulling the leaves off the trees. Fall is not a fav of my seasons. Many of the tragedies in my life have happen in 'Fall'. I prefer Autumn. I say Autumn. I love the word Autumn because it is the color of the leaves that "stay on the trees".

Ok enough of this profound humbo-jumbo. hahahahaha Thanks for liking the teeth whitening tutorial.

  24. Record heat & humidity smothering us this past week or so, too. 90+ with Amazon jungle humidity makes me wish we had an air conditioner a few days a year! Yuck!
Looking forward to fall here, to our fields - and ON the field.. First game under the Friday night lights tomorrow!

  27. Around here, it has been fall-like for two weeks, but it is supposed to be hotter and more humid starting tomorrow. I am really not mentally ready for fall, but that also signals the time when I need to start thinking about heading down to Florida.
