Celebrating with Cake

This weekend marks the beginning of our Fall Break.  What is Fall Break you ask?  Our school district works from an alternative calendar.  We typically receive a week break (sometimes a two week break) in fall and spring.  Also time off at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other regular holidays.

I decided to celebrate this occasion with cake.  An Italian Cream Cake to be exact.

This was my first attempt at this type of cake.

It did turn out well.

So well, in fact, that a couple of hours after I took this photograph, it was already halfway gone.

That is what happens when you have a teenage boy in the house.

If you would like the recipe, you can find it here.

  1. That's a good cake when it doesn't last long.

  2. Those cakes are very good. I've eaten them but never made one. I don't do much baking. DH eats whatever I cook, and he says he doesn't need the sugar, fat, carbos and calories that are in it!

  15. A wonderful way to celebrate a school break. It would have all disappeared here (4 teenagers + 4 other children)! I've just put a chocolate fudge cake in the oven to celebrate a couple of family birthdays which we postponed last week due to several being unwell with flu (including the birthday girl who loves to bake).
