Iris

Not only are the Dandelions in full bloom, but a few Iris have reared their beautiful heads this spring.

We have a small batch of purple Iris in the corner of our yard.  The flower gets its name from the Greek Goddess, Iris, who was the Goddess of the rainbow and a messenger on Mount Olympus.

Also known as, "Flags", the three petals often represent faith, wisdom, and valor.

Due to its three petals it is also associated with the Holy Trinity.

Though I think they are incredibly beautiful and would like to have a few in a vase, I cannot bear to cut them.

"The Earth laughs in flowers."

  2. Our purple irises are just blooming now, also. This never-ending winter that we had, has everything all messed up!

  3. I would only be able to cut some for a vase if I have loads of them in the yard. I had a few at our previous home and could never have cut them either. They are lovely!

  6. So pretty! Mine are barely knee high, if that. Usually they're beginning to push a few buds. I guess we'll enjoy them in June this year instead of May. Thanks for sharing yours!

  12. They are wonderful. Many years ago I had some purple iris and faced the same dilemma. If I cut them for the house, they weren't available for the garden. What to do?

  25. I got to visit our Botanical Garden yesterday afternoon - the iris section was still in process . . very few were blooming. People were standing - looking at the green - the promise that blooms were on the way - and the people were having discussion about the flowers - almost like they were waiting at an airport for dear friends to land from a long time away . . . it was interesting.
