Random Five Friday

I took this shot while randomly walking around a trap shooting competition.  I have no idea what type of flower it is, so any comments would be appreciated.

Our nation endured the passing of Maya Angelou this week.  Here are a few things you might not have known about her.

I confess that I have made these before, but didn't like them.  Still, I think they have a small, cult following.

The pool DIY repair is not going well.  Screws that have been holding the pump in place for nine years now do not want to come out.  *sigh*  It is always something.

I am feeling a little relieved to have summer break spread before me, so let's celebrate with a little Aretha.

Enjoy your weekend!  Go make it a good one!

  2. I love random finds, and yours turned out to be great. I was saddened by Maya Angelou's passing. She was an inspiration to many.

  3. I hope you have a fantastic and super relaxing summer off from school. My daughter (school nurse) is so anxious to be off, too. I remember the excitement of the last days of school..just knowing that I would soon be able to sleep in and go and do whenever I wanted. You flower looks like a lily, but don't quote me on that...I am awful at plant id (and bird id too!)

  7. I'm stymied by the flower and I know a lot of flowers! It almost looks like a Rhododendron flower -- or as mentioned above - a lily. I hope someone positively IDs it for you. Hope the pool gets fixed and enjoy your summer! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  20. Nice shot. The loss of Maya Angelou was a great one. I really don't know of another poet of her magnitude. The two I think of, Nikki Giovanni and Natasha Tretheway (most recent US Poet Laureate), maybe are close seconds but I daresay we will never have another like Maya.
