Country Auction

Yesterday found me up early and out the door to a country auction.  As usual, there was a whole range of items available for bidding.

Tractors of all brands....

and a Victrola.

Loads of tools were available,

as was this gem of an ashtray with a lighter in the horse's head.  Interesting, if nothing else.

This cast iron kettle ended up bring a couple hundred dollars.

All furniture items are fair game during the auction, so if you need a spot to rest, just take your pick.

This washstand drew a bit of attention,

as did the unopened Elvis albums stacked on top.

I didn't leave totally empty handed.  This iron table came home with me for just a few dollars.  A project for the spring, I think.

If you are unfamiliar with an auctioneer's chant, you can take a listen right here.  It takes a bit of getting used to, I think.

  1. Auctions a a bunch of fun. We used to hit one nearby each Friday night.
A Victrola? That ashtray would be a conversation piece in any house. Looks like you got a pretty good 'find'. Buy the spray paint by spring.

  15. Love those photos, especially the one of the hand tools! I think auctions could be addictive. I went to one once and it took a lot of discipline to stick to my budget--it was easy to get swept up in the competition.
