A New Friend

"All you need for happiness is a good gun, a good horse, and a good wife."

Daniel Boone

Though the young man of the house might be a bit young for a wife, he still has the gun, but with a good dog instead.  Here he is on the annual day after Thanksgiving rabbit hunt.  His canine friend is just a pup and out for the hunt to learn the ropes.

The dog stuck with my son all morning long.  One never knows when a new friend will be just  around the corner.

  1. i adore beagles! if they wouldn't spend all day and night baying out in the woods, i'd have a whole herd of them here. :)

  3. Very nice shot of your son, and that does look like a good dog to take hunting! I have a sister around his age who is great at butchering deer--but *we* need her! ;)

  4. A good dog can end up being a good and loyal friend.
    It's that "unconditional love" thing.

  7. What a cute post...and what a cute son and beagle! Beagles are one of my all time favorite dogs. So....did they get any rabbits??

  8. Great photo. That pair aren't going to let anything get by. They are gazing both ways.

  9. What a handsome son you have! I'm amazed that the pup stayed by him so well. We found a Beagle on the road up on Mt. Hood in the dark and rescued him.. we brought him home and ::POOF:: in a few days he was off again. So, my memory of Beagles are that they don't stay with you. I hope this one does for your son.. sounds like he might! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  13. Oh. Precious. This photo brought tears to my eyes. I wish I had taken son of my son. His dad only got shots of 'the kill'.
Enjoy these times. They are precious.
    Have a wonderful week.

  15. There is also an old saying that of the wife, the gun and the dog, never ever loan your gun as misattention in the rain will ruin it forever.

  16. That's a great photo - and a great quote. 2 out of three ain't bad? Though, must admit I have obvious reservations about guns - but then we don't get too many bears etc over here!

  18. Your son is a handsome young man Michelle. I can attest to the gorgeousness of Beagles, we had one when my two were young and she was brilliant but there was no having a sneaky bit of chocolate, she could smell it a mile away :)

  23. Handsome son....wonderful photo. My son began hunting with his father, at a very young age. He learned gun safety before ever hunting, with his father.

    1. Meggie, my son has been hunting since he was a very young child. He also learned gun safety before ever going out in the field.
