Ground Dog Day

I wonder if my spotted friend would mind standing in for the traditional groundhog today?

She can be kind of sassy, so I cannot imagine she would like me checking for her shadow.

She's her own woman like that.

Last year Jimmy the Groundhog, the shining star of Sun Prairie Wisconsin's Groundhog Day Festival, bit the Mayor on the ear.

I guess if you're not feeling the festivities, you're just not feeling them.

The National  Climate Data Center states that since 1988, groundhogs have only had a 39% success rate.

With our stormy weather forecast for today, it looks like our local whistle pigs might not be seeing their shadows.  Therefore, winter will just melt away.

Sounds good to me.

  1. Hello, I would much rather see a cute puppy dog predict an early spring than the groundhog. Pretty images. Happy February, enjoy your day!

  2. Great post . .
Might not see her shadow but I sure can find her in the midst of the grey, dark, decay and such!
I'll take the winter "fade away" too . . .

  3. Just heard that Phil did not see his shadow in PA. However it seems that the sun is shining there so I think it may have been rigged.

  10. Your sweet girl reminds me of my Hunter, who passed last March. He was a Jack Russell/feist mix with those same colors. And yes, those little terriers can be somewhat temperamental, but very sweet as well. Lovely, lovely water fall photo!

  11. Like you four-legged friend. Probably smarter than a groundhog. Kinda feel sorry for the whistle pigs getting dug out of their hibernation just for the amusement of a bunch of couch potatoes.

  14. Oh! LOVE that flowing water pic!! If your dog dashes suddenly through the woods, then it's 6 weeks until spring. Otherwise a month and a half left of winter.

  16. But I always like a nice cold and snowy winter up north so I can feel better about the cost of spending the winter in Florida.

  24. Is it wrong that I think that it's funny about the mayor? Am I banished from your blog?

  27. In my experience, if the groundhog says there's not going to be six more weeks of winter, he's lying. So funny about Sun Prairie's mayor, unless you're the mayor. Have a wonderful evening, Michelle. :-)

  28. I think the odds of an early spring are about 100 to 1 here. This year and every year. Take care of your dog--she looks sweet!

  29. I never believe the groundhog--he's hardly ever right, and the weather here is more controlled by El Nino this year! Your Jack Russel looks very cute and curious....love those little dogs! I also love all the bright green moss underfoot in your photos. We have over a foot of snow under our feet this week..lol
