A Ball Player's Prom

Smalltownland recently held its high school prom.  In this small town it's a big deal.  Prom goers get ready early in the day for pictures, dinners, and they walk into prom while a good portion of the town comes to watch.

A team mate of my daughter asked me if I could take a few photos of her, and her boyfriend.  She is a softball player and he is a baseball player.  They already had formal pictures scheduled and she had some very last minute ideas from.....you guessed it, Pinterest.  I told her I was game, but I didn't usually take photos of people.  Cows don't count as people, right?

Lucky for me, they were easy subjects.

And, beautiful ones at that.

"I think the prom is very serious also.  It's an American ritual, it's a rite of passage, and it's very much a part of this country."

  7. I find the prom tradition being so nice and festive! Watching the movies ... here in Denmark it is becoming in a small scale to some schools, your younger son had a sort of a festive party, where he wore a suit, and the girls had dresses! Such a beautiful lady and handsome young man in your photo!

  10. Michelle, these are great pictures!!! The first one cracked me up - it's fantastic!!! The dress is fabulous! It was my daughter's prom yesterday, and one of her friends had a similar dress and just like this girl looked stunning in it.
I remember when I started to take senior pictures last fall I felt a bit insecure in the beginning because I've never really done portraits and people photos. It certainly is very different, but also interesting and rewarding. I fell in love with it - especially if you have "subjects" like the two you had. Complete fun, right?

  23. Lovely! Our town doesn't do a prom parade, but the ritual has gone crazy--they have to find a creative way to ask, a creative answer, a day date, dinner, and pictures at the dance. It has us fogies scratching our heads and asking each other, "remember when we used to call each other and go out for a date?" And that was stress enough!
