Chasing the Lion

Yesterday had me traveling to Corbin, Kentucky, the birthplace of Kentucky Fried Chicken, and  I didn't even get to eat any!

I was there to photograph this motley crew as they participated in the Lion's Chase obstacle race.  Consisting of 3.2 miles of running and 57 obstacles, it isn't for the faint of heart.

Here is the before and after shot.  My son hates to have his picture taken!
The obstacles were not simple things.  Here is the girl climbing the rock wall.

These people looked like ants walking around this loop.  They are actually carrying boulders, yet another obstacle.

Here is the son traversing the pond.  He sprinted and finished this race in 47 minutes.  Last year he finished 16th out of over 600 participants.  Still waiting for results to be posted for this year.

The girl did here best here.......

but, ended up in the water.

There were a lot of groups that had themes and costumes for this event.  These guys are dressed as hillbilles.  How they kept their wigs/costumes on during all this is beyond me.

Here is just a sample of the filth

Mud, grass, and leaves were stuck to everyone.

It all made for one disgusting pile of laundry, but some great memories.

  4. I really admire those who went for this challenge. I used to be a triathlete, and savored all I had never tried.Hope your son placed well, but with races like this all who finished are winners.

  6. What an amazing event and so great for the kids to learn that they can finish something that difficult. It doesn't even matter where you place as long as you get to the finish line. I love the pictures of your motley crew, so great.

  13. That looks like great fun . . . to photograph. I can't imagine being a participant. (Nice to see the young man and glad that the girl seems to have her softball injury behind her.)
