Saying Goodbye

When I was a little girl, living far away from Kentucky, boxes would arrive on my doorstep full of custom made clothes.  Little did I know that my mother would send my measurements to my Grannie Lucille and clothes would be made to order.  Out of the scraps, clothes for my dolls would be made.  It seems their measurements were taken, as well.

During the summers, my family would make the drive from North Dakota, where my father was stationed with the Air Force, all the way back to Kentucky.  There we would spend time with my grandparents, on their farm at the end of a small, country road.

Food, family, and farm life were the important things.  As a little girl, I was treated so special.  My grandmother had three boys and there I was, the little girl whose hair she wanted to brush and the little figure she wanted to clothe.

This week, along with so many others in our small community, she passed on......

What an exceptional influence she was to me in life.

"I'm a very positive person.  My grandmother taught me that happiness is both a skill and a decision, and you are responsible for the outcome."

  21. The death of your grandmother must have been a terrible loss to you. It sounds like she met many of your needs as a young girl. I had a grandmother like that, too, and we'd spend time on her farm in northern Minnesota. I remember how over and over, my mother would crab at me for something and grandma would say, "Oh, leave him alone, Margaret, he's not doing anything wrong." May your grandmother's memories stay with you and encourage you through the rest of your life!
